Regular exercise is key to staying in good health, and there are many ways you can make sure you fit some physical activity into your weekly routine. Even something as simple as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or going on a short walk on your lunch break can be beneficial to get more movement into your day.

You may even find that attending fitness classes once or twice a week is a good way to keep motivated and enjoy your workouts, but how do you decide which is the right class for you? Below are some tips to help you figure this out.

What’s Your Schedule Like?

Most fitness classes will have a variety of sessions taking place on different days and times throughout the week, so finding one that fits in with your working hours and social engagements shouldn’t be too much of a challenge. However, it is important to factor this in, as if the class you choose is on at an awkward time for you, it’s unlikely that you’ll stick to it. Be mindful about what session you choose to attend if you want to keep up with the class.

What’s Your Fitness Level?

Often fitness classes can provide sessions for different levels, whether that is beginner, intermediate, or expert. Be honest with yourself about your fitness levels so that you are choosing to attend a session that you can keep up with but will also challenge you. You can move into the more advanced classes as you develop your skills and confidence in the activity you are choosing to engage in.

Be Open to Experimenting

There are all kinds of fitness classes out there that can offer a different workout experience, and some will be low-impact activities, whereas others can get your working up a sweat in no time. It’s a good idea to be open to experimenting with different activities so that you can find one or two that you love.

For example, trying out some martial arts at gyms like the FC gym Balham, or perhaps a Pilates class instead? With many options to choose from, having an open mind and trying new things will help you find the perfect one for you.

What’s Your Budget?

If you have a gym membership, you might be entitled to attend the classes that your gym runs at no extra cost. However, you should expect to pay for your fitness classes, and the cost can vary. Some classes will also ask you to sign up for a minimum number of sessions, whereas others will be happy to let you pay as you go.

Make sure you have thought about your budget before you sign up for any fitness classes outside of your gym membership to avoid spending a lot on an activity that you don’t enjoy. You may want to try free taster sessions to help you decide, as a lot of class instructors do offer this. If you are searching for a new fitness class to try, consider the tips above to help you find one that you will love to go to every week.
